Since 1966, Norwegian Cruise Line (has been a pioneer in the cruise industry, offering the concept of a cruise that's not just a means of transportation, but an exciting, affordable alternative to hotels and resorts. Throughout its history, Norwegian has continually renewed its fleet with bigger and better ships (10 new vessels have been launched since 1999) as well as groundbreaking innovations in both onboard and onshore programs.
In May of 2000, NCL first introduced Freestyle Cruising, a dynamic onboard program that challenged the conventional stereotypes of a cruise vacation. Hallmarks of the innovative onboard program include more than 20 restaurants, open seating and extended hours in the main restaurants, “resort-casual” attire each night, simplified tipping procedures, and a more leisurely disembarkation procedure.
In 2007, Norwegian took the Freestyle concept to the next level with Freestyle 2.0, a major enhancement to its onboard product fleet wide. This initiative further improved the guest experience and included an increased investment in food and an upgrading of stateroom bedding and amenities across the fleet.
Today, Norwegian boasts the youngest fleet in the industry, and provides guests the opportunity to enjoy the flexibility of Freestyle Cruising on the newest, most contemporary ships at sea. And July 2010, Norwegian Cruise Line added to its history of innovation with the launch of the state-of-the-art Norwegian Epic. The first of the “next generation” of Freestyle Cruising ships, Epic features onboard innovations and continuous, world class entertainment never before seen at sea!
