Norwegian Cruise Line Launches Two New Ships in 2013 and 2014
The Norwegian Breakaway set sail from New York City for the first time in May 2013, and it is the largest vessel to homeport year-round in New York City. The Breakaway will offer sailings to Bermuda, Bahamas, South Caribbean, a transatlantic from London to New York, a one night escape from Rotterdam to London, and two night cruises from New York. - Norwegian Cruise Line’s first ever seafood restaurant, Ocean Blue, by Iron Chef and New York City restaurateur, Geoffrey Zakarian
- Carlo’s Bake Shop by Buddy Valastro of the TLC television series “Cake Boss” and “Next Great Baker”
- Ice Bar, kept at 17 degrees Fahrenheit, with ice sculptures and cocktails inspired by New York City
- Vibe Beach Club, an adults-only retreat with an oversized hot tub, chaise lounges, and bar
- A fireworks display at Spice H2O during a 1980s-themed deck party as the finale of every cruise
- Three Broadway shows: Rock of Ages, Burn the Floor and Cirque Dreams™ & Dinner Jungle Fantasy
- Aqua Park, featuring five multi-story slides, two swimming pools, four hot tubs, and special water features
Norwegian Breakaway’s sister ship, Norwegian Getaway, will set sail year-round from Miami beginning February 2014. Featured on the Getaway:
- The Waterfront, the ship's oceanfront boardwalk with eight outdoor dining and lounging options, and 678 Ocean Place, lined with shops, restaurants and bars, connecting three decks of daytime and nighttime activities
- Illusionarium, where guests can dine as magicians perform in a dome-shaped room with special effects
- The largest ropes course at sea at the Sports Complex, a three-story area with a climbing rock wall, basketball, mini golf and more
- 28 dining options including three restaurants by Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian
- Aqua Park, featuring the fastest slides at sea, two drop slides, two swimming pools, and four hot tubs
- Dolce Gelato, a first for Norwegian, serving a selection of slow-churned gelato flavors
- The Haven by Norwegian, with 42 Suites at the top of the ship in an exclusive, key-card access area and 22 additional Suites located throughout the ship
New "Guppies" Program for Children Under Three
Splash Academy, Norwegian Cruise Line’s youth program, has expanded to include “Guppies”, a program for children ages six months to three years old. Parents will now have the opportunity to engage in sensory-based programs with children including baby art, baby “Rhyme Time,” where nursery rhymes come to life with a storyteller and puppets, and “Motion in the Ocean,” a parent and baby mini-workout. Splash Academy offers engaging programs for children ages 3-12, separated by age group. Teens ages 13-17 can participate in the Entourage Teen Program, which provides age-appropriate activities such as Wii™ games, parties, sports, music, arts and more.
