Located in northern Europe, Sweden is the largest Scandinavian country. Travel here for sunny beaches, the Arctic’s rough country and the distinctive characteristics and attractions of its major cities.
The country’s capital is Stockholm, a city spread across 14 islands. Spend a few hours in medieval Gamla Stan, the Old Town. Wander through its narrow streets, lined with ancient buildings, shops and cafés, until you reach the Royal Palace. Watch the daily Changing of the Guard ceremony and explore some of the magnificent building’s rooms, including several museums.
Stroll around Skansen, an open-air museum where you can see 150 historic structures from across the country. One of the city's most intriguing historic sights is the well-preserved 17th-century Vasa warship at the Vasa Museum.
Visit Gothenburg, Sweden’s second-largest city. Learn about its past as a major shipbuilding site at the Maritime Museum that also houses an aquarium. Other popular museums include the Museum of World Culture and the Gothenburg Art Museum. Spend several hours shopping in Nordstan, one of Scandinavia’s largest shopping malls. Take a cruise or dine along the city’s picturesque canals.
In Malmö, explore the 14th-century Malmöhus Castle and stroll near the canals. Enjoy nude saunas, sunbathing and ocean swims at Varberg’s Kallbadhuset, a popular spot for more than a century.
During the winter, appreciate snow, ice and darkness in Lapland, deep inside the Arctic Circle. Go winter walking, cross-country ski or tour the area by snowmobile. Drive a team of huskies across the Arctic wilderness and try ice-karting on frozen lakes. See the northern lights and sleep in rooms made of ice and snow at the ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi.
In the summer, take advantage of the country's hundreds of miles of beaches, particularly on the western coast. Thousands of lakes offer swimming and watersports.
Before you leave Sweden, embark on an island-hopping adventure. Explore some of the more than 30,000 islands of the Stockholm archipelago. On Gotland, visit the Lummelunda Cave and observe sea stacks. See evidence of prehistoric human settlements on Öland.

Very quirky hotel, decor is really interesting, clean and straight forward. The only downside was I had booked a stay on the Sunday and on the website it states that the restaurant is open, but it's not, instead it's a very limited bar menu so I didn't get to have a proper meal here unfortunately. ...
Simple but efficient design. Free shuttle runs every 1/2 hour. Very convenient. Affordable for overnight layover stay near the airport.
the room was very cold- there's apparently a smart system that determines how warm your room should be, and it wouldn't warm up even if I turned the heat up fully.. otherwise everything was very nice, would probably stay again. room service food was not very impressive though, probably won't order ...
Great hotel for one night stay Arlanda airport, Stockholm. Despite luxurious appearance, the sheets are part polyester and not so comfortable. For the quality and price of such a hotel, I expected 100% cotton sheets which make for a more comfortable nights sleep.
Good location, good breakfast comfortable bed. The rooms are quite average and could do with a refurb but all in all I had a good stay and would book again.
Nice contemporary hotel, beautifully appointed and decorated. All the staff we encountered were very pleasant and helpful! We loved the location, very central, easy to walk around and enjoy the city. Loved the wine bar for breakfast and in the evening for a lovely supper. All in all a very nice place ...
Probably the biggest hotel room I've had in Stockholm! Room was lovely and hotel itsself was beautiful. The corridors were quiet and rooms well soundproofed. Main complaint would be the bed! The hotel didnt recieve my request for a twin room from expedia so was in a double with my friend. That normally ...
The staff are incredible, going out of their way to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. The hotel is well kept, nice bathroom, comfortable bed. The breakfasts each morning were a highlight, excellent choices of foods. Dinners in the restaurant were limited in menu choice but the food chosen ...
