New Amsterdam Theatre Ticket Information

The New Amsterdam Theatre just off Times Square hums with magic—and not just because it is currently home to Disney’s Broadway musical Aladdin. Stepping inside the historic building transports you into an Art Deco wonderland of seafoam-green walls, light fixtures adorned with angelic women in flowing dresses, stucco carved into bountiful flowers, and marble sculptures depicting Shakespearean plays. Opened in 1903, “The House Beautiful” is the oldest operating Broadway venue and an official New York City landmark. In 1913, the famous Ziegfeld Follies graced the New Amsterdam stage with big-name stars, spectacular sets, and long lines of beautiful chorus girls in lavish costumes.

The Return of the Dream

When the Great Depression hit, people could no longer afford tickets to New Amsterdam Theatre shows, and the house of grandeur fell into a gradual decline and eventually into complete disrepair. The ceiling collapsed, years of rain and snow flooded the basement, and mushrooms the size of dinner plates grew throughout the house. In 1993, The Walt Disney Company signed a 99-year lease and spent 2 years restoring The House Beautiful to her original opulence.
