Formed in 2011, the a cappella group Pentatonix—often called PTX—first came into the spotlight after winning the third season of the NBC competition show The Sing-Off. They’ve since gone on to find incredible international success with their pop-style arrangements of contemporary covers, Christmas songs, and original tracks featuring vocal harmonies, body percussion, basslines, and beatboxing. With 6 albums since 2014, the group has amassed 3 Grammy Awards, including Best Arrangement for their cover of “Daft Punk” and Best Country Group Performance for “Jolene” with Dolly Parton. They’ve also had phenomenal success on social media, been featured in commercials for the likes of Macy’s and the NFL, and appeared in numerous holiday TV specials. With eclectic, energizing performances, tickets to see Pentatonix live don’t stick around for long.
Pentatonix began in Arlington, Texas in 2011 with high school friends Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, and Kirstie Maldonado. After learning of NBC’s Sing-Off, they decided to audition, but first sought out a bass and a beatboxer. They met Avi Kaplan, a highly recognized bass in the a cappella community, and found beatboxer and cellist Kevin Olusola through his viral videos on YouTube. The group met only one day before auditions for the show, but went on to take the Season 3 title. Pentatonix, whose name is derived from the pentatonic scale, found near-instant fame with the release of their first EP, PTX: Vol. 1, and sold out their first national headlining tour in 2012. Their touring schedule has since become so demanding that Kaplan opted to leave the group at the end of 2017 and was replaced with bass Matt Sallee. Together, the 5 worked on their sixth studio album, PTX Presents: Top Pop, Vol. I, and will tour the United States in the summer of 2018 to promote the release. Don’t miss out on tickets to see this impressive group in cities like Phoenix, Dallas, Atlanta, and Cincinnati.Back to top
