Description

Step into the era of the ancient Maya with a day trip to see 2 of Mexico's most storied sites—Coba and Chichen Itza. Hear about the mysterious lifestyles of the Maya from your private guide as you admire impressive stone temples, and go for a refreshing swim in the clear waters of a cenote.

Your guide picks you up in the early morning for the ride to Chichen Itza, getting you there before the crowds arrive and before the jungle heat is too intense. Explore the site for 2 or 3 hours with your guide, learning how this pre-Hispanic site was a hub of commercial and religious power for the ancient Maya. See landmarks like the monumental El Castillo pyramid, and then head to the Ik Kil cenote, where you can cool off with a dip in this natural freshwater pool.

There you could have lunch to continue on the jurney to the sprawling archaeological site of Coba, where ancient stone temples are tucked deep in the misty jungle near the banks of a massive lake. Trek along shaded trails between stone ballcourts and temples, even climbing to the top of the highest pyramid on the peninsula to take in the view over the treetops before your return ride to your hotel.

Our guide was an expert and knew so much! I really enjoyed his knowledge, sense of humor, and how he took care of us. We had an amazing experience! The driver definitely knew the streets of Mexico and was excellent. Plenty of water was also provided during transportation!

I have to admit, when I saw the cost of the tour I was very hesitant to book. Had a hard time justifying to myself that this could be worth it. Boy was I wrong. The tour lasted 12 hours and our tour guide, JJ, was amazing. He was so proud to show off his heritage and culture to us and it was clear that he spent a great amount of time learning more than what you find in the tour books. JJ let us set the pace of the tour and answered every question we threw at him. When we asked about some of the fruit trees that grow in the region he stopped and bought us some of the fruit for us to try. After watching the large tours in the same areas that we were we are so happy that we did the private tour. The others were way too large and impersonal for our taste. They were not able to address questions in that format and had to keep the group moving, regardless of if you wanted to stay longer to enjoy the sights of take more pictures I would recommend this private tour.

The private tour was worth the money. I was bit skeptical at first. Looking online there were no reviews on this tour company. We are so happy we took the chance. We didnt have to be crowded on a tour, or be a part of a tour full of people. We were able to see each site at our own pace. Raul our tour guide was excellent. He was very knowledgeable in the history of each of the sites. Our driver Alberto was great as well. They even stopped to help get medicine. Since I was feeling well. In addition to seeing Chin-itza, Coba, and the Cenotes, they took us to a tequila farm. Where we did tequila tasting and saw how tequila is made. Before swimming we had buffet lunch. The food was delicious. I don’t eat pork, but they had this pork dish that cooked for several hours underground that was amazing.
